Ben Affleck"s crime drama "The Town" topped all films at the weekend box office according to early estimates from Hollywood.com.

"The Town" (Warner Bros.), a crime drama starring Affleck that he also directed and co-wrote, took in $23.8 million at the domestic box office for the top slot. The Boston-based movie drew strong reviews, especially for co-star Jeremy Renner"s turn as a unrepentant bank robber, and will likely be a player during Oscar season.

The teen comedy "Easy A" (Sony / Screen Gems) placed second with $18.2 million. The movie stars Emma Stone, Patricia Clarkson and Amanda Bynes, among others.

"Devil" (Universal) a horror thriller based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, placed in third with $12.58 million.

Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box-office division of Hollywood.com, said in an email that "Ben Affleck has proven himself as a major force both in front of and behind the camera. "The Town" proves that the directing prowess he showed with "Gone Baby Gone" was no fluke."
